CPRRP Eligibility and Paths
To be eligible to apply for the Certified Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Practitioner (CPRRP) Program you must first (1) be a member of PSR/RPS Canada. You must also (2) complete the CPRRP application form on your online account, submit it together with (3) your proof of academic standing and / or psychosocial & recovery experience and pay the CPRRP application fee.
The following criteria must be fulfilled before the Certification Committee to review your eligibility for writing the Recovery in Action paper:
1) You hold a PhD. or M.D. or Master's* degree (copies of degrees, diplomas, certificates, etc. are required)
In addition, you also have a minimum of one consecutive year experience, or a supervised practicum / work experience in an approved educational institution in a mental health/addiction services program within the last three years or through a combination of the following. :
- Mental Health/addiction work experience in public or private sector, health organizations, government or broader industry
- Volunteer involvement in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction service in public or private sector, health organizations or government, including Board membership
- Such volunteer experience must be within the healthcare sector, may not equal more than six months (calculated based on a 37.5 hour work week) of the one year of total work experience, and must be within the last three years.
OR
2) You hold a Baccalaureate degree or a minimum of a three year diploma, based on 3 years of a full time study program or you are a Registered Nurse (copies of degrees, diplomas*, etc. are required) (please note that certificates from colleges or universities are not equivalent to diplomas).
In addition, you also have a minimum of two consecutive years; full time (minimum 37.5 hours /week) equivalent experience in mental health/addiction services within the last five years or through a combination of the following:
- Mental Health/addiction work experience in public or private sector, health organizations, government or broader industry
- Volunteer involvement in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction service in public or private sector, health organizations or government, including Board membership
- Such volunteer experience must be within the mental health/addiction care sector, may not equal more than six months (calculated based on a 37.5 hour work week) of the two years of total work experience, and must be within the last three years
*Important note: International degrees (PhD, MD, Master’s and Baccalaureate) and diplomas that are not from a recognized Canadian accredited university or college require credential equivalency proof. Credential evaluation must be done either by the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials at: https://www.cicic.ca/2/home.canada OR World Education Services at https://www.wes.org/ca/. OR
3) You demonstrate 6 years experience in mental health/addiction services. This includes employment, peer support, volunteer or lived experience. The combined total of such experience must be at least 6 years. Work and volunteer hours are based on full time equivalent hours (37.5 hours / week), of employment/volunteer.
- Provide three attestations to the involvement in mental health/addiction services and/or supports and how those contributed to your PSR Practice Competencies (please note that immediate family members cannot act as references for applicants.)
- When considering work and / or volunteering experience:
- Mental Health/addiction work experience must be in public or private sector, health organizations, government or broader industry
- Volunteer involvement in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction service in public or private sector, health organizations or government, including Board membership
- Peer Support in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction services
