Eligibility

Copies of degrees, diplomas, certificates, etc. are required

In addition, you also have a minimum of one consecutive year experience, or a supervised practicum / work experience in an approved educational institution in a mental health/addiction services program within the last three years or through a combination of the following:

  • Mental Health/addiction work experience in public or private sector, health organizations, government or broader industry
  • Volunteer involvement in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction service in public or private sector, health organizations or government, including Board membership
  • Such volunteer experience must be within the healthcare sector, may not equal more than six months (calculated based on a 37.5 hour work week) of the one year of total work experience, and must be within the last three years.

Obtaining Your CPRRP Designation

Step One: Apply for PSR Canada membership

  • First of all you must be a member of PSR/RPS Canada prior to getting your CPRRP. If you aren’t already a member, you can register here.
  • Determine your eligibility.
  • Apply for Certification in your membership account:
    • Pay the application fee
    • Complete the CPRRP application online form, and upload supporting documents. You may edit the application form and supporting documents as much as you want before submitting.
    • Submit the application for approval using the button on your account. You will not be able to submit the form until you have paid the application fee.
  • If there are any concerns regarding the documentation, further evidence may be requested. The Certification Committee provides approval for you to continue the application process

Step Two: Write your Recovery in Action paper

  • The Registrar will notify you when the Certification Committee approves your eligibility to move forward. (The volunteer Certification Committee usually meets monthly, so approval can take 1-2 months.)
  • Complete the Recovery in Action paper within six months of approval. The Registrar will give you your specific due date. Paper is graded as pass or fail.
  • You will need to upload your Recovery in Action paper in the CPRRP section of your online membership account. You may edit the paper as much as you want before choosing to submit.
  • Submit the paper for approval using the button in your account.

Step Three: Track your education credits

  • Upon approval by the certification committee, you will purchase Maintenance of Certification in the CPRRP section of your account for $175.00. You need to make this payment after your initial approval, and every three years after in order to maintain your certification.
  • Keep record of your Maintenance of Certification education credits in the MOC section of your account.

Application Fees

Application Fee:


$250 CAD + applicable taxes

If your application is rejected, a refund will be issued, less $75 (including applicable taxes) administration fee. Once you have started the program, no refund will be issued should you decide to withdraw. Should you be required to repeat any component of the program, an administration fee of $75 (including applicable taxes) will be levied to cover the cost of your re-evaluation.
