Eligibility
Copies of degrees, diplomas, certificates, etc. are required
In addition, you also have a minimum of one (1) consecutive year of experience or a supervised practicum/work experience in an approved educational institution in a mental health/addiction services program within the last three (3) years or through a combination of the following:
- Mental Health/addiction work experience in public or private sector, health organizations, government or broader industry
- Volunteer involvement in any organization dedicated to mental health/addiction service in the public or private sector, health organizations or government, including Board membership
- Such volunteer experience must be within the healthcare sector, may not equal more than six months (calculated based on a 37.5 hour work week) of the one year of total work experience, and must be within the last three years.
Obtaining Your CPRRP Designation
Step One: Become a member of PSR/RPS Canada
- First, you must be a member of PSR Canada before getting your CPRRP. If you aren’t already a member, you can sign up by clicking on the button below. Follow the directions provided on the login/sign up page.
- Determine your eligibility by reviewing the three (3) different pathways described in the Eligibility section above.
- Once you have created an account in PSR Canada’s portal and purchased your preferred membership, you can purchase access to the CPRRP Designation Application course from the Home tab of the portal.
- Once purchased, refer to the left-hand navigation menu of the course to work your way through your application requirements, which are customized depending on the eligibility pathway you select during the process.
- Complete the CPRRP application form and upload all required supporting documents. You may edit the application form and supporting documents as much as you want before submitting.
- The Certification Committee will review your application form and all submitted documentation and approve your continued application process. If there are any concerns regarding the documentation, further evidence may be requested.
- The Registrar will notify you when the Certification Committee approves your eligibility to move forward. (The volunteer Certification Committee usually meets monthly, so approval can take 1-2 months.)
Step Two: Write your Recovery in Action paper
- Complete and submit your Recovery in Action paper within six (6) months of approval. The Registrar will give you your specific due date.
- Paper is graded as pass or fail.
- You can edit your paper as much as you want before submitting it.
Step Three: Track your education credits
- Upon approval by the Certification Committee, you must purchase Maintenance of Certification from the list of Available courses on your Home tab for $175.00.
- You must make this payment after your initial approval and every three years to maintain your certification.
- The Maintenance of Certification course in PSR Canada’s portal allows you to log the education opportunities you engage in to record your Maintenance of Certification education credits.
Application Fees
Application Fee:
$250 CAD + applicable taxes
If your application is rejected, a refund will be issued, less the $75 (including applicable taxes) administration fee. Once you have started the program, no refund will be issued should you decide to withdraw. Should you be required to repeat any component of the program, an administration fee of $75 (including applicable taxes) will be levied to cover the cost of your re-evaluation.
